Celebrating the Poetry of Peace

Modern Cain and Abel
by David Soriano

They are truly brethren
Albeit with substantial differences
Throughout recorded history
Difficulties in communication.

Political and religious implications
Financial aspects of social turmoil
If a peace maker comes forward
He will swiftly be eliminated from the scene.

Elevation of the people
A land with much to share
Common goals and working together
Yes, please give peace a chance.

Anger is a form of envy
Bifurcation of emotions
Retrace the ancient steps traveled
While wearing the other man's shoes.

Illness not so advanced
That surgery must be scheduled
A balanced plan of exercise and diet
Can dissolve the two types of pain.

David Soriano is a chemistry professor with the University of Pittsburgh's
Bradford campus in Pa. He is married twenty- four years and has two daughters
along with a cat and Bernese Mountain Dog. He enjoys the world of poetry as a
welcome relief from cold, technical matters.

We must allow ourselves the joy of loving through life more than we fear our living.

Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will live as one.
